App: Any Url

Get this app for...

Pull any website, webpage, webapp or graphic into your Netvibes tab. Just click 'edit' in the top right of the module bar and paste in the url to your site, page, or hosted graphic. The module uses an iframe and allows you to edit the title, width, and height. To use the full screen just click the arrow in the right of the tab, click 'Number of Columns', and click the number '1' For Universe Builders: - While viewing works fine with Internet Explorer, we have a known issue saving preferences with IE. While we work on it, please use Firefox or Safari to save. - Save time when you are building out a universe or just adding multiple tabs by opening the Any Url preferences and clicking on the 'add to netvibes' button. The new instance of Any Url is added directly to the current tab, and you can drag it on top of another tab. Updates: - Auto scrolling has been enabled by request. - If using Any Url with sites requiring login, such as Google or Yahoo, you may need to log in to each before you visit netvibes. If you visit netvibes before you log in, you may find yourself on a log in page, with netvibes having disappeared. Just login, and return to netvibes. Any Url

I SEE SEVERAL people posted similar questions with NO answer back. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! I used this with yahoo mail and it kept taking me streight to yahoo and I couldn't get into my netvibes acct at all. I read all the posts and someone said to log into yahoo mail 1st, then open netvibes--ok that worked. I liked the look of it so much that I used it with my hotmail acct. I liked the way I could select all emails and delete right there in the netvibes page with out redirecting to another IE page, like the hotmail widget does. Anyway when i used this widget with hotmail, it redirects netvibes to hotmail and again I can not access netvibes. logging in or out on another tab did nothing to help. I would just delete my netvibes "mail" tab if I could but it won't let me. PLEASE HELP ASAP. thanks and sorry 4 yellin

Great little gadget. Works. Can you add a selectable refresh rate?

Opo, You are correct about the # method. Excellent example using nasa site. Now I understand exactly what you mean. Well, I guess that's impossible to say.. but I feeeeel like I do anyway. Look for this 'screencrop' feature in the new release- And thanks for the feedback.

Hi Yauponder, the # sign works only if you have them in the page. What I am looking to is a way to force the Widget to open, lets say, at 600 pix from the top and 450 from the left side of screen. To be clear, look at the opening page from nasa.gov (http://www.nasa.gov) What I would like,is the ability to position the widget just on the EXPLORING UNIVERSE column of the right. Thanks already

Opo, To automatically scroll to a point in the page, use an url with a # sign. For instance, to auto-scroll to your comment in this page, use this url: http://eco.netvibes.com/modules/16036/any-url#co4025 The # sign at the end is what is specifying the scroll position, in this example to your comment. As for the scroll bar preference, good idea. I will add it to the list for when we convert to the new UWA api. To see the our latest widget in the UWA, check out: http://eco.netvibes.com/uwa/200218/clicky-web-analytics-2.0

Hi Yauponder, I'm back. Every thing is fine! Just the same request that would make your widget a Must. It would be great if I could set the module: 1) to automatically scroll down a certain amount on the page in question. Most pages have 300 pixels worth of ads or header before their actual content. You can increase this value to crop out the top part of the web page displayed. 2) to automatically scroll right a certain amount on the page in question. Most pages have 150-200 pixels columns just for spacing before the content. You can increase this value to crop out the left part of the web page displayed. Point 1 and 2 would position the widget just where you need it. You could add also a choice for: If the web page is larger than the size of your widget, scrollbars will normally be displayed. Tick this box to prevent scrollbars from appearing. That would work fine to get in Netvibes the dynamic graphs, webcams, data that is impossible to get from a specific URL. Protopage has a Widget doing just that! The Widget is the "Web Page" that you can find it in the Add Widgets tool bar. What do you think ?

Whooo-oooh, slow down James. No idea what bloglines is nor what is such a pain in the neck to fix. Just delete the module and move on already.
13 | Posted by guest | 19/08/2007 20:13:17 | Delete
DO NOT USE THIS WITH BLOGLINES OR YOU WILL VERY MUCH REGRET IT!!! IF YOU USE WITH BLOGLINES IT WILL AUTO REDIRECT TO THEIR SITE AND IT IS A PAIN IN THE NECK TO FIX!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Cheeko, Great question. Yes, here is one example: http://www.robertjacksonco.com/#contact Copy and paste the above into the View URL: field in the preferences and it save. When it loads you will see that the scroll bar is all the way at the bottom of the page. The # sign means the scroll bar is going to an anchor, in this case named contact. The navigation on the left makes use of these anchors. #cabinetry for instance, takes you to the middle of the page. If you'd like more help, post a link to your page and describe what is at the top of the page when you have scrolled to your spot.

This is just the best iframe module of NetVibes ^^! But just one question, I'd like to know if it's possible to add the possibility for the module to remember the position of the scroll cursor? I noticed that someone already asked the question but I haven't find the answer! Thank you.

hi, new here, what a great idea for a module! I'm stuck I add the name, the url, and hit save and it comes back with the opening message instructing me to edit module. So far every thing I've tried returns to this same message. I sure could use some help, and can hardly wait to begin using this exceptional idea. All the best the cork

Oliver, Saving preferences is a current issue in IE6. You're quick fix is to download Firefox and/or Safari, which work fine. I understand from Opo that once you have saved settings, you can view the tab with IE6.

Protopage has a Web page widget that has vertical and horizontal offset settings. I haven't seen this in either Netvibes or iGoogle. Would also be nice to be able to rescale page as per Firefox CTRL-

Ok, thanks Opo. That is useful information. This discussion began regarding google analytics, which is a secure, https, url. Do you get the same above results for http:// urls as you with https:// urls?

Need more specifics to help, because all is working normally over here. If you log out and add the module, does it work? If you try a different browser, does it work?

Hi Yauponder, As with Dawn I can write: "It's not working for me. I've added the url, saved... tried it a myriad of times even with different links and it keeps reverting back to the blank module. " I Can not even change the Title. It is the Saving process that is involved. Good luck and good work! Opo

Adam, First, login to the google account associated with your analytics account. Then, on netvibes in this module, add the url below, hit save. https://www.google.com/analytics/reporting/

Hey guys, I am trying to add google analytics to my page by your suggested method. However I cannot add. Can anyone help? Thanks
32 | Posted by guest | 12/06/2007 23:01:41 | Delete
Simon, I have added scrolling="auto" per your request. This will enable scroll bars when necessary. The horizontal bar will however be at the bottom. The width setting already exists. Let me know if this change solves your issue.
33 | Posted by guest | 12/06/2007 16:59:59 | Delete
Is there any way to increase an iframe width?? Also would u be able to have an option to put the horizontal scroll at the top of the iframe? I think this would be a nice feature?

Google docs work fine. Try using a direct url to your document and logging in to view your google doc before you visit netvibes.

I'm attempting to add the URL http://docs.google.com to the module. I get a Cookies not Enabled from the site. Any ideas?

hi, i have a 'serious' problem, and i have no idea how to fix it, well , I added it to my netvibes but now every time i go there it automatically directs me to that one site, there is no way i can do anything with my netvibes acc anymore, do you have any idea how i can solve this?
37 | Posted by guest | 11/05/2007 0:07:54 | Delete
This is really great! I use this instead of Google Calendar module and it works MUCH better with fewer steps and fewer confusions.
38 | Posted by guest | 28/04/2007 20:51:27 | Delete
This seems to be the best iframe module right now, so hopefully you can add one other feature? It would be great if I could set the module to automatically scroll down a certain amount on the page in question. Most pages have 300 pixels worth of ads or header before their actual content. Is that difficult? I was imagining using css positioning, but if this is actually using an html iframe tag I don't know that that would work out... I'm a web developer but I've never tried making modules. I probably will take a crack at it. There's no modules for slashdot or livejournal. What a tragedy.

This isn't bad, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a module that would simply allow me to input a link and only the link with a brief description would be displayed. Basically, some sites don't have rss, but I would still like to keep track of them (like a bookmark). Displaying part of the actual page isn't necessary and actually causes more of a problem. Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

hi ... Here is a difficult URL (won't display) and a sub-url that seems to partially work There is NO RSS feed (deliberately) for these pages, the provider wants you to go to subscribe to the pages... The URL you get when you subscribe (and is dispayed (but doesnt come up in your add-in) is: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/TheNote/TheNote.html and what eventually shows up onscreen is: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=156238 neither of them show up correct the First one doesnt show up, the second shows up with very bad formatting! please assist!

Hi Yauponder, A new idea I found on ... WEBMAG... http://www.blog.webwag.com/index.php?2007/02/04/32-webwag-introduces-widget-on-demandtm-wod-the-user-generated-widget "From any web page. And more simply, to widgetize any site that does not provide RSS feeds or widget. Webwag introduces Widget on DemandTM (WOD). The ultimate solution to help users to widgetize their favorite destination sites" You can select just the piece of Web page you need and import it in your own page. It means that, say I want to see just the Ebay Search results, I can just select the pictures , price and description and leave out Titles, sidebars, ads... That would be terrific !! Bye and good work. Opo

Hi again, about 2) open page with click on title I Just Found a Module that opens in a new page if you click on Title: is the phpBB Monitor par cmorison http://eco.netvibes.com/modules/10991 Bye Opo
49 | Posted by guest | 17/01/2007 18:00:22 | Delete
Hi Yauponder, thanks of the prompt reply! I just tried to do again the same operation as in 1) and now its works perfectly as you said. I can SAVE even in 4 column, perhaps the problem is sometime with Netvibes servers or memory use of the laptop... If I see it again I will tray to make a screen capture... Concerning 2)the opening in a new page is not found in modules (my error) but with the feed reader. I think anyway that with your module it would be a good option to be able to go to the the watched site with just one click on the title. I had already reviewed your module in a BLOG about netvibes and EBAY: http://netviber.blogspot.com/2007/01/ebay-modules-on-netvibes.html Thank you for all Opo
50 | Posted by guest | 17/01/2007 14:53:45 | Delete
Opo, 2 quick solutions: 1. To save settings, simply put your cursor in any of the input boxes and click 'Return' or 'Enter' on your keyboard. 2. To open the url in a new window, right click on the page and select 'Open Frame in New Window' or something similar. I am working on a laptop and can see 'Save' button when module is in 3 and 4 column layouts. Any one else with this issue? Post a link to a screen shot of the issue. When I click on a module title, I can collapse/expand the module or move it. Post an example of a module that does what you want. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi, good module. Could you fix some details ? 1) Your module is impossible to edit when I have 3 or 4 column on a laptop because the SAVE is just on the left side of the module and I am not able to click on it. Could you move it on the right side? 2)is there any whay, like other Modules do, that by clicking on the title your module opens a new page with the URL I am watching ? Keep on the good work Opo
