Great app. Could you add the ability to enter a negative number of shares in the Holdings? This would allow the entry of a short position. Then calculate value so that as the stock price declines, the gain would go up. Thanks.

@vexarax, looks like you are using an older version of the widget. Current version as of today is 3.1.2 (displayed on the bottom right corner). Like I said, netvibes is no longer auto upgrading the apps and instead serving older versions via cache. If you wish to manually upgrade, re-add the new widget instance and migrate the data from the older instance onto newer instance using the Options menu.

@all, looks like netvibes is no longer auto upgrading the apps even though the hosted URLs reflect the latest version. I have resubmitted version 3.1.x and request all to manually re-add and migrate your data if you haven't yet done so.

Is this widget still supported? It hasn't been able to retrieve any data for a while now and I notice there has been no comments on it for over a month. It would be a shame to see it go - it's been very useful in the past.

@user844521031, that's bad and should not happen unless something went wrong with your data in the netvibes profile. You should export the dashboard XML and inspect to confirm if you have any recoverable data. Haven't heard anyone else reporting such problems.

After a couple days of "Widget HTTP Error" and the invalid URL message, it started working again this afternoon. Unfortunately all the data I had entered is gone. All the stocks, # of shares, cost, etc are missing.

Yahoo finance API is not available anymore. I have moved to MarketXLS after this change, much more reliable data.

So it looks like http://ichart.finance.yahoo.com is up again which is good. Unfortunately the Default Chart View is “Chart with 1 Day” AND the only view (can’t see 1 year, 1 week, etc.) Any ideas? (I hope it’s not my end in the form of RTFM :-)

@scrampy, it seems http://ichart.finance.yahoo.com is down for the past 4 days which is causing the chart image not to load. The error in the page indicates that it might come back, but there are few discussion on the yahoo forums that this service is being discontinued and shutdown.

I'm not sure if this is affecting only me, but for about a week(?) the graphs are not loading, and are showing a "broken GIF" icon in the viewer. The number are updating so it looks like a rendering issue - any tips?

Thank you @duthieg, the widget uses multiple web services to retrieve various types of information and not all the services are available in the secure mode at this time. While I shall consider updating the supported services to secure mode in a future update and eventually make the widget accessible via secure protocol, I'd like to assure you that, even currently, all your data and holdings info are stored and accessed securely and NOT sent to any external web services besides the symbols alone. All the portfolio table data and profit maps are computed and generated locally within your netvibes login.

This is one of the most useful apps anywhere on NetVibes and definately the best stock portfolio widget by far. However, there is just one caveat to that: Any chance of an "SSL" version of this (i.e. allow it to run over a secure "https:" connection)? Netvibes itself supports SSL, as does finance.yahoo.com. It would certainly broaden it's reach, internet security being such a major issue these days.

That's correct @vintageveloce, Server based method uses Netvibes UWA apis to proxy fetch the yahoo feed info where as Browser based method directly queries yahoo feed info. Both approaches has merits and demerits and that's why I'm keeping all options open so users can pick and choose the best that works.

@vintageveloce, I guess if you can adjust your widget settings to use "Server Based" fetch method, it might resolve the issue with Chrome browser. There has been reports that some users were unable to retrieve data using "Browser based" setting in certain browsers.

@rdcence, Browser based option showing error indicates that your local network is not allowing access to query.yahooapis.com. Pl see if it can be resolved at your end. Also, check if adding a new instance of the widget resolves the issue. I can help you migrating the data. At the moment, all server based calls are experiencing bad gateway errors which might be something that Netvibes platform has to resolve.

I tried Switching to Server Based and then back to Browser Based and still getting the error message: An Error occurred while fetching the details... Invalid Service Response I also tried clearing the cache. Any other ideas to try?

@all, as the error message indicates, Yahoo finance APIs are responding with either no data or sometimes cached (old) data. There is no change to the original widget, except that I have introduced all kinds of ways to fetch the data. Refreshing the widget holding down the "Shift" key improves for me. Also noticed that Chrome and Safari loads better with Browser based fetch method. If things doesn't improve soon from Yahoo side, I'll consider adding auto-retry mechanism and see if that helps. All widgets using this source has the same issues.

On update to version 2.8.0 this widget has stopped working completely. The browser based setting produces this: "An Error occured while fetching the details... Invalid Service Response" The server based option produces a blank widget.

Yes @techgrh, that's a new option introduced in the recent release. For most users, the browser based option should work fine, but for some users like you need to use server based option. I'm glad that both options are made as configurable.

@techgrh, looks like your local network is blocking access for yahoo api services. Go to widget settings, set the "API Fetch Method" option to "Server Based" and see if it resolves your problem.

Latest update seems to have wiped everything out again, just getting a blank screen. Deleted and added, but no help. Allows stocks to be added, they show up in "view data", but no display.

@mattedsmith, Prices for the symbols traded in London Stock Exchange, when quoted in "GBp" (NOT GBP) or "GBX" are in pence. Look for the currency in the summary panel to confirm. You can verify this directly on LSE website. If you have multi currency portfolio, it's better to separate the data into different instance of the widget so that the calculations are accurate. Also, the widget does not identify if a market is open or close. The last price will be grayed out only if the last traded time of the symbol is more than 12 hours of the current system time. Check if your system time is changing which is the reference for the widget to show in gray vs. black color.

My European shares are: German - VOW.DE, DAI.DE, PAH3.DE UK - BKG.L, RDSA.L, RDSB.L Problem with refresh is still persisting and I've tried clearing caches, etc. Also, the London shares seem to use UK pence as the monitory unit which does very funky things to the holdings screen (eg a £19 RSDA share shows as 1900)

@ajoskubik, by the way, if you are using netvibes app on mobile or using mobile.netvibes.com to access it, then there's a known issue that netvibes do not store and sync the data unless you keep the page running for certain time. If you use tablet device or desktop, I suggest you use www.netvibes.com page instead of mobile.netvibes.com. Hope that helps...

@ajoskubik, how do you exit the widget? Are you closing it before adding it to the dashboard or removing the widget from the dashboard to exit? Please note that the data gets stored only if the widget is in the dashboard.

Thanks @mattedsmith. If you could share or email me the symbols that's causing this, I can run it with old and new APIs and get back to you. So far, I use US symbols and it has always shown the correct info. I also haven't received any other reports from the users having similar problems.

Thanks for this app, it's really useful and I use it many time each day. For the last couple of days it's not been refreshing with the latest prices. The 'Last' column is often grey as if the markets had closed and the previous close price is shown. Very infrequently a refresh will fix this, but more often than not it won't. This is happening across UK and EU stock.

Latest version has a bug. You must have at least 2 items in order for anything to appear. Normally I would delete the 3 default averages and just display the stock I am watching. Trial and error proved I needed at least 2 items, else the display is blank.

@johntreagan, the data for all 3 tabs is managed within Watchlist itself. Watchlist is the master for all the tabs in the widget. If you already have symbols in the Watchlist, just edit the same and provide the purchase info to view them in the Holdings tab. Hope that helps...

@wswain33, at the moment, Netvibes widgets aren't supporting syndicated instances outside of netvibes pages. However, there's one indirect way to embed a preconfigured widget into the blog page. See below notes if that helps about what you were looking for: Click on the Widget's "Edit" menu >> Click "Share" >> Click on "Grab a link" and copy the URL. Then in your blog page, you can embed an IFRAME with the preconfigured URL as shown in the example link: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/pgOXgp?editors=1000

Great app for tracking a portfolio. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to render or generate code on the Share/Blog export. I would love to include this on the website of my investment club (with proper attribution, of course). If I could do that, I would upgrade my rating to 5.

Digging into this a little bit, it looks like the "tiny.cc" URL for your widget got broken; http://tiny.cc/jk9-stockportfolio is "not found." Perhaps this is why the "invalid XML" error happens (because no XML is returned from that URL)?

@All Users: I strongly believe that this problem is due to the Netvibes UWA platform issue. Many of my widgets are turning into errors gradually. I can tentatively fix this by changing the URL and resubmitting it. However, there's no guarantee that it'd work correctly unless the original problem is rectified. Besides this, you'll have to keep migrating manually for every re-submit of widgets.

Love this app as well just spent 10 mins trying to fix it local, maybe its conflicting with Ublock Origin or NoScript but even turning everything off I still had no luck, says xml error. 5 out of 5 app I highly recommend it.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with the widget code or with the hosted location. I verified that all the instances including mirrors are online and responding correctly. It's just that the public widget doesn't seem to be loading. May be it's a problem with the Netvibes widget loader or it might be that this URL is being notoriously censored by Netvibes for some reason. I can resubmit the widget pointing to another mirror, but it'd cause existing user's instances to fail to load and will have to manually migrate. If Netvibes doesn't fix the loader issue, I'll resubmit again.

@All Users: Looks like sourceforge server is still down and could take extended period of time to restore. I myself find it hard to be without it. So, I have decided to move my widgets to a place where I have option to switch to mirror sites. You can continue to use the old widgets (when it is back) as it'd be updated to the live copy until a next major release. New installation of the widget will have the advantage of switching to mirror sites, so the future downtime will be very minimal.

This is the best stock widget I've seen, so far nothing has come close. Yesterday it stopped working and it is sorely missed. Is it a problem with netvibes or the widget itself? Already tried the usual clearing of browser cache etc. Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch.

Great widget - it's near perfect for me, but I miss the ability to distinguish currency in the stock prices. My portfolio contains stocks and funds in US$, Euros and Danish, Swedish and Norwegion Krone, so I can only compare the relative performances. It would be great if you could select the currency for the "Net Value", "Day's Gain" and "Net Gain" columns to see and compare absolute values for your portfolio.

Thanks @dallasbennettrobinson, the first number is the change in points and the number within parenthesis is the change in percentage since the previous day. As you see the 1/100th value of the DOW, the first number shows -1.23 (down by 123 points which is -0.72%).

I love this widget. I have a question about it. On Saturday 7/25/14, when showing the Dow Jones average change, there are two numbers: -1.23 (-0.72%). Is the first number for Friday and the second for the week? Thanks for the great widget.

@amorejr: Technically some browsers have limits on the data being sent in the request. That's why I had put a limit of 45 symbol per instance of the widget. I'm not sure if you have hit the limit in your browser or is it just that General slowness from yahoo for all.

@murphyway: Thanks for the browser info, I was able to simulate your issue and have pushed a fix to correct the menu right away. For #2/3, still I didn't get it. The values shouldn't be in the £ pence. I tried with a stock from GBP and it works fine in my test module with calculated values reflected in £ and not in £ pence. Try removing and adding a new entry.

Ok - Fast response and thank you for checking. The browser is Chrome version 33.0.1750.149 m and the screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 but the same on my notebook which is 1440 x 1050 and also running Chrome. With the stock list expanded, the options button is always there about 4 stocks down. Struggling on the second and if I take an example I have bought and entered 141 shares of stock x at a price of 1418.4 and current price is 1442. The portfolio shows 1418.4 and 1442 so I can see the decimal point is in the right place. Day gain and net gain are right in £ pence along with cost and current value but hard to read in pence every time. Hope that makes sense.

@murphyway: For #1, I'm assuming the options menu overlaps on the quote list only when its expanded. When you click the options again, it should collapse and not overlap with any of the stock in the table. If you still see the collapsed option menu overlapping with the stock table, please share the browser version and screen resolution so I can try to fix that. For #2 and #3, based on the example provided, I'm thinking you have configured that stock with 100 quantities purchased. That's why you see the net gain reflecting 100 times. Both Net and Today's gain is designed to show the amount based on the quantities you have, and NOT on the unit share. Pl see the calculations in the online help manual: http://tiny.cc/spHelp

Promising and just what I need but seems to have a few issues. 1. The new options button seems to be above any stock entry even if I change the window size. 2. The calculations in the portfolio seem out by 100...for example I can enter a stock bought at 1418 and with the current value at 1480 I can see the increase, but the overall gain seems to be multipled by 100. Even trying entering the bought value with different decimal values does not work. 3. The day gain seems to be a new gain.

Thank you. Yes, if you increase the width of the widget, you should see both % change as well as absolute change. If you are using Netvibes mobile site on a mobile device, you may have to change orientation so that more space is available to show other details. Sure, I'll update the paper icon as soon as I get something better.

So glad I found this, thank you. Any way to show a %-change instead of an absolute change in price? Also it took me quite a while to find how to delete/edit/move stocks in the list. Maybe a pencil icon instead of the paper icon to indicate that clicking there will "edit" something?

Great widget! Really appreciate that you moved and updated it after your server bandwidth issue. 5 stars! One request: I would like to be able to add symbols to the watch list with list separated by commas or some other bulk method. Entering them one at a time is a slow.

Yes, as you increase the width of the widget and make room, more fields are displayed in the below order: Volume, Target Price (1-year), Market Cap, 200 day Avg change

@drood: Updates won't need reloading entire widget data. The free bandwidth where this widget was originally hosted was exceeded and users were unable to run the widget. So, I had to resubmit the widget with a different server path after moving the necessary media and scripts to a new server.

Recently I ran out of the free bandwidth space where this widget was originally hosted. I have now migrated the widget to a different repository and resubmitted the widget to Netvibes ecosystem. If you are still seeing any invalid XML error, you might have to re-add the widget again.

Yahoo Finance API doesn't share the value for ^DJI symbol (contractually restricted). Instead please use ^DJX to get the 1/100th value of ^DJI. I'll try to make this automatic in one of the future updates...

This is my favorite stock portfolio widget on netvibes. I like being able to track many indexes/stocks at once, being able to mouse over a stock ticker and to see the day's gains/losses in graph form. I messaged the developer and he said that additional features will be added, such as being able to change the order of indexes/stocks and more statistics and data options. I'm looking forward to that!
