This is just a revised version of the original Daily Comics module. The changes from the original are as follows:

1. Added many other web comics. If the one you want isn't included yet just request it and it can probably be added. 2. Images for all selected comics now preload. 3. Added configuration so that you can choose a subset of all the comics to be displayed 4. Added a scaling feature so that if the comic is bigger than your resolution it will fit. You can click on the link in order to bring up a new window with the full-sized image. 5. Fixed IE support

Wonderful! Any chance you could add Questionable Content?
2 - Dexter, 03/11/2006 21:21:37
Seems very buggy. Takes forever to load or often doesn't load at all. Also, no Overcompensating!
3 - philhans, 03/11/2006 23:29:03
The host I am using has gotten very slow recently, so that is why it may have loading issues. I am looking into moving it elsewhere to fix that problem. As for are overcompensating, what are you referring to?
4 - philhans, 04/11/2006 5:05:39
I moved the module to a new location that seems reliable, let me know if there are any other issues.
5 - tubby17, 13/11/2006 15:36:15
Looks like you exceeded your bandwidth. This is a really great module. Is is possible that netvibes could host it themselves, or at least could someone with unlimited bandwidth (if that exists) do a favor to phil and the rest of us?
6 - Victor, 13/11/2006 23:10:25
Hi, I would be happy to help you host it.
Let me know if you're ok :)
7 - philhans, 18/11/2006 4:47:48
I have rewritten the module so that it uses a lot less server bandwidth. I'm hosting it on the previous host again. I don't think there should be any problems, but let me know if there are.
8 - philhans, 21/11/2006 20:52:38
I added a few more web comics to the mix.
9 - Mamoun, 29/11/2006 15:30:55
Hi philhans, Love your module, Anyway to add Baldo comics to the list, please?

Thanks
10 - philhans, 29/11/2006 18:52:04
Sure, it's added
11 - csaki, 18/12/2006 11:43:33
Add sinfest, please.

www.sinfest.net
12 - ruetama, 27/12/2006 20:19:14
I agree, sinfest!
13 - Mariusz, 28/12/2006 14:20:41
Hi, could you please add Dog Eat Doug and Fred Basset?

TIA.
M.
14 - philhans, 28/12/2006 22:54:33
I have added the 3 requested comics
15 - Mariusz, 29/12/2006 9:05:13
Thanks for Dog Eat Doug. I forgot last time, but could you add Adam@Home when you have some free time? Thanks :)

M.
16 - x, 02/01/2007 4:52:20
Thanks for the module. Any chance of making it really configurable?

I mean, for example, input a URL to an arbitrary comic, rather than pick from a predefined list?

If not, two requests:

(1) Could the Perry Bible Fellowship be added?

(2) Could the checklist be changed to alphabetical order?
17 - ruetama, 03/01/2007 19:45:15
As of about an hour ago it seems like your host is dead. www.byu.edu resolves fine, www.et.byu.edu does not.
18 - ruetama, 03/01/2007 19:46:13
Thanks for adding sinfest, by the by. This module kicks ass :)
19 - Mal, 10/01/2007 21:59:53
Hallo philhans,
Just checking out netvibes and daily comics is a must have! Could you please add
UserFriendly.org http://userfriendly.org/
Freefall http://freefall.purrsia.com/
Two great comics I might add!
20 - philhans, 10/01/2007 23:36:55
I added the last 2 requested comics and changed the config list to an alphabetical order. Perry Bible Fellowship might be doable, but the syntax they use for the image won't work with my parser the way it is. I've also been looking into making it configurable so you can add whatever comics you want with having to request them, but school just started again and im a little short on spare time.
21 - Mariusz, 12/01/2007 19:35:20
Hello, could I please get Count Your Sheep? :-)

http://www.countyoursheep.com/
22 - philhans, 13/01/2007 6:08:28
Alright, I made some adjustments to make the image parser more robust. It now works with Perry Bible Fellowship, so I added it and the one just requested.
23 - philhans, 25/01/2007 20:55:53
Well, my school web-hosting let me know that they don't want me hosting this on their webspace, so I have moved it to another location. The new address is once again http://philhans.awardspace.com.
24 - tosmts, 15/02/2007 2:03:52
There is a problem with showing in opera9. I could inspect the reason if you don't have a general idea waht might be the cause.

Problem: links to commics are not displayed at all (though it seems that there is content that flickers once after hitting save button)

I'd blame it on css
25 - philhans, 15/02/2007 5:51:48
I had to make some changes to the Javascript to make Opera happy. It does work now. Thanks for the heads up.
26 - FLX, 21/02/2007 20:22:03
I love your revised module!
Is there a possibility you could add:

Thanks in advance!
27 - philhans, 21/02/2007 21:53:09
Both of them are added
28 - FLX, 28/02/2007 23:02:07
Thanks alot! you made my day :D
29 - FLX, 28/02/2007 23:19:06
Least I could do doesnt work tho :-/
But myextralife works great :D
30 - philhans, 01/03/2007 2:45:26
Strange, it is working for me. What exactly doesn't work on your end?
31 - Jan, 02/03/2007 23:33:39
Hi,

Awesome module. Any chance you could add The Noob? http://www.thenoobcomic.com/
32 - philhans, 03/03/2007 1:13:46
Sure, it has been added
33 - FLX, 05/03/2007 18:57:59
The noob and The Least I could do arent working. The Least I Could Do worked for a short period of time, but now it shows up again as "error loading image"
34 - FLX, 05/03/2007 23:14:35
oh, and maybe you could add http://blaugh.com/ as well :)

Thanks in advance!
35 - philhans, 06/03/2007 0:57:36
I added something that should tell you what the url it is finding for the image is. It should list that in the "error loading image" popup. Try going to that url by itself to see what is happening. I also added the other comic.
36 - FLX, 06/03/2007 3:53:59
Ah, i understand now :) Its only happens at my work. I think those are blocked by the content filter. I was thinking that you maybe cached all the comics on your web space.
37 - Tirial, 08/03/2007 6:04:27
For some reason, this module crashes safari every time i try to install it. Grr.
38 - FLX, 10/03/2007 0:07:52
thanks for adding Blaugh! i also found another good comic: http://explosm.net/comics

Thanks in advance!

FLX
39 - Gary, 15/03/2007 14:56:35
I have installed using Firefox 2.0.0.2 and User Friendly is not showing?
40 - monkeyduke, 17/03/2007 23:00:18
Awesome mod! Thanks heaps!

Could ya puhlese add - http://explosm.net/comics

merci bien
41 - philhans, 20/03/2007 20:10:11
I've been pretty busy recently but I finally got around to adding that last comic.
42 - monkeyduke, 21/03/2007 10:46:14
I just noticed you added explosm.net.

Once again thanks man! You're awesome

<enter emoticon> :-D <exit emoticon>
43 - Jeff, 22/03/2007 19:04:19
This is great, been a regular user since October. Could we fit in http://www.duelinganalogs.com please?
44 - philhans, 22/03/2007 19:58:54
It has been added
45 - Karrde, 25/03/2007 5:45:32
Cool module. Couple of comics and one suggestion. First the comics:

http://somethingpositive.net/
http://gucomics.com/
http://wtfcomics.com/

Then my comment. Since you're caching all the images anyway it would be great to have an option that just displays all the images inside the widget directly w/o having to mouseover or click. My thought had been to have a separate tab that's just one column wide with various widgets for each comic (widgets similar to the stand-alone xkcd). A tab with just one widget that has all the comics I want to read is just as good.

Great work on what you have already.
46 - Matt, 30/03/2007 14:28:08
My request is for Ballard Street.

Thanks for your good work.
47 - philhans, 30/03/2007 22:26:31
I added all the requested comics except wtfcomics. Unfortunately the way they generate the links to the images through javascript makes my module unable to pick it up.
48 - Scott, 03/04/2007 5:18:50
Great module, thanks for keeping it going through different hosts and parsing problems!
49 - elizs, 04/04/2007 19:10:58
This module is awesome! I've been just reading my comics on the Houston Chronicle's site, but if I could get all my faves on netvibes, that would be even better! My suggestions for additional strips:

Lio http://www.uclick.com/client/sea/lio/
9 Chickweed Lane
Bizarro
Edge City
La Cucaracha
Mutts
Rhymes with orange
Six chix

Thanks so much for setting something like this up!
50 - Efrum, 07/04/2007 22:08:14
Great module!
Could you please add F Minus from comics.com?
51 - Pelle, 08/04/2007 23:33:28
Hi, thank you for a great module!
Would it be possible to get White Ninja (http://www.whiteninjacomics.com) and Wulffmorgenthaler (http://www.wulffmorgenthaler.com) included in the list? Thanks!
52 - Efrum, 09/04/2007 14:32:03
Thanks alot for F Minus :)
53 - elizs, 16/04/2007 21:04:02
Thanks for adding Lio and La Cucaracha!
54 - freeboprich, 18/04/2007 5:56:52
Hi there, great work on this module, just thought I should let you know though that the link for VG Cats is wrong, it should be "http://www.vgcats.com/comics/images/..." and then the name of the comic image.

Thanks! Rich*****
55 - philhans, 19/04/2007 7:21:24
Vgcats is now fixed
56 - Mariusz, 21/04/2007 17:15:57
Hello, can I please get Winnie The Pooh?

http://www.gocomics.com/winniethepooh/

Cheers.
57 - Kyranna, 25/04/2007 16:31:26
Oh my gosh! What an awesome module!! Thanks so much!

Could you please add Rose is Rose?

http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/roseisrose/

Thanks again!!
58 - Netvibes user, 02/05/2007 16:08:38
Thank you very much!
59 - Bill, 08/05/2007 23:02:14
Great module philhans! Big improvement over the original.

I've got one small problem: When I use a netvibes theme that has a dark background, the text inside the comics module disappears (i.e. it's black-on-black).

Thanks!
60 - uran, 10/05/2007 13:26:16
My fav module :3
But if I could request Wapsi Square, it'd be even better ;)
http://wapsisquare.com/
61 - philhans, 11/05/2007 19:16:03
Added a the last few requested comics
62 - Dennis, 17/05/2007 19:47:36
I've found another good geek comic!
http://www.dieselsweeties.com/
63 - rhysd, 19/05/2007 8:03:39
Wow. Excellent module. I have the same problem as Bill.

"I've got one small problem: When I use a netvibes theme that has a dark background, the text inside the comics module disappears (i.e. it's black-on-black)."

If you could fix this that would be great. You can see the names before they resolve and then they become black and are no longer visible.

Thanks again. BYU eh?
64 - rhysd, 20/05/2007 8:43:17
I don't know what you did but it's working now. Thanks.

P.S. Could you add This Modern World?
http://thismodernworld.com/newest-comic/

http://www.workingforchange.com/comic.cfm?itemid=22335

Thanks. You rock
65 - Netvibes user, 13/06/2007 3:23:38
Wonderful module! Indispensable.

Could you please add the following strips:
Big Nate
http://www.comics.com/comics/bignate/index.html

Cheap Thrills
http://www.comics.com/wash/cheapthrills/index.html

Frazz
http://www.comics.com/comics/frazz/index.html

Working Daze
http://www.comics.com/comics/workingdaze/index.html

Thanks!
66 - philhans, 14/06/2007 18:56:13
Added the last few requested comics along with Joy of Tech
67 - CPav, 17/06/2007 18:33:55
Thanks!

I forgot one. When you do your next batch, could you include Luann at http://www.comics.com//comics/luann/?

Thanks again!
68 - Bastian, 19/06/2007 8:01:53
For some reason Adam@Home does not load in Firefox Sessions. Could it be that this is a module issue ? All other comics are working fine !
69 - Bastian, 19/06/2007 8:07:53
Oh, almost forgot: Requesting a new comic, too: http://www.gocomics.com/outofthegenepool/
Out of the Gene Pool !
70 - infowaitress, 19/06/2007 17:53:32
I am wondering what Iam doing wrong. I have loaded this module numerous times and it always comes up blank. Clearly it is working for others. I am running on IE7. Any hints? What is it supposed to look like, certainly not a blank and empty box!
thanks
71 - philhans, 19/06/2007 18:01:24
It will be blank the first time you load it. You have to open the config menu and select which comics you want to see. Once you have saved that configuration, those comics will show up.
72 - CPav, 19/06/2007 18:45:40
I have Adam@Home in Firefox one a daily basis.

Requesting Funky Winkerbean from http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/funky.asp

Thanks again!
73 - infowaitress, 19/06/2007 19:12:04
Thanks, philhans, and such a quick reply, coulda sworn I'd checked that edit button. I love it. Any chance you can add Mutts
http://muttscomics.com/index.asp
The Duplex
http://www.gocomics.com/duplex/
You're the best
74 - infowaitress, 19/06/2007 19:12:05
Thanks, philhans, and such a quick reply, coulda sworn I'd checked that edit button. I love it. Any chance you can add Mutts
http://muttscomics.com/index.asp
The Duplex
http://www.gocomics.com/duplex/
You're the best
75 - infowaitress, 19/06/2007 20:31:53
oh and how about Zits... a true reflection of my life
http://www.arcamax.com/zits
TIA
76 - Bastian, 20/06/2007 10:22:43
Okay, checked it and my problem with Adam@Home is definitly not caused by the module. It seems my Ad-Filter was automatically updated and it filtered this comic because of the "ad" in the URL. Sorry for bothering.

Still would love an addition of "Out of the Gene Pool" http://www.gocomics.com/outofthegenepool/
77 - infowaitress, 22/06/2007 22:52:15
Thanks so much, I love this module! I think I will set my start up to the comics!
78 - mads, 09/07/2007 14:08:02
Love this. Could you by any chance add Brevity?

http://www.comics.com/comics/brevity/
79 - Jeff, 10/07/2007 15:00:18
Is there a problem with this module all of a sudden? I only get 1 of my regular comics showing up now, with the rest all greyed out.
80 - Karen, 10/07/2007 15:37:00
Ditto! But it's wonderful when it works!
81 - philhans, 10/07/2007 18:20:08
It seems like the Netvibes proxy that I was using isn't working like it used to. I'm looking into it.
82 - NDArch, 15/07/2007 7:44:30
Great module, but would really like "Loose Parts" added to the selection of comics.

83 - mads, 17/07/2007 21:21:50
You added Brevity! Thanks a lot.
84 - Janet, 18/07/2007 16:39:47
It also looks like the preferences aren't working, i.e. I go in to choose which comics I want, carefully hitting the "save" button instead of just close, and the changes don't take effect.
85 - philhans, 18/07/2007 18:33:52
@Janet
Everything is currently working fine for me. What browser you are using?
86 - NDArch, 19/07/2007 0:38:53
Thanks for the quick response to adding Loose Parts! Great module.
87 - LauraV, 25/07/2007 18:29:59
Love this module but it is not working in IE7. I am having a the
same problem as Janet. Just FYI.
88 - deviant, 09/08/2007 9:34:33
Could you please add Baby Blues? Thanks!
89 - LauraV, 10/08/2007 21:50:37
It appears to be working for me again, thanks!
90 - philhans, 10/08/2007 22:55:53
@LauraV
I haven't actually made any changes, so I'm not sure what would cause it to work inconsistently for you. I checked it in IE7 on my home machine and didn't have any problems.
91 - kyrlian, 31/08/2007 15:45:58
Hi philhans, I tried your module, great work ! I'm switching :)
92 - Satoribomb, 05/10/2007 6:57:03
Man - this is just what I was looking for! All I could ask for is that you add a couple more comics - Liberty Meadows, Over the Hedge, Schlock Mercenary and Starslip Crisis.

Thank you for all of the effort to build such a great widget!.
93 - philhans, 06/10/2007 4:16:43
Those have been added
94 - osiris, 19/10/2007 17:09:47
Can you add Applegeeks to the list please? Wicked Widget!
95 - osirous, 25/10/2007 18:49:14
hey any possibility of adding "Looking for Group" to the list?
Thanks for being so responsive and adding so many requested comics, it is a great widget.
96 - CPav, 12/11/2007 5:15:05
philhans, thanks for a wonderful addition to my daily routine.

I had previously requested Funky Winkerbean (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/funky.asp). I just wanted to make sure that the request wasn't overlooked. If there's a problem adding it, I won't ask again.

Thanks!
97 - philhans, 14/11/2007 3:11:11
Sorry for not responding. I looked into adding that comic but there isn't any way to get to the comic without going through the Seattle Post page. So, it can't be added unless there is a different location that has the comic
98 - dotmariusz, 17/11/2007 16:20:10
Can I get John & John?

http://www.johnandjohn.nl/
99 - The Jerodian, 22/11/2007 1:19:32
Hey, what about Sluggy Freelance (sluggy.com)? That comic's the mother of all webcomics! Or at least Dr. McNinja (drmcninja.com)?
100 - Peter, 07/01/2008 4:31:11
Great widget! Could you also add Piled Higher & Deeper (www.phdcomics.com)? Thanks!
101 - Nem, 13/01/2008 4:39:20
Request for a couple comics to be added:
- redmeat www.redmeat.com/redmeat/
- Cyanide and happiness www.explosm.net/

also it seems vgcats is not working, it is grayed out.
102 - Nem, 13/01/2008 4:41:26
Just found out that cyanide and happiness was already in, should have looked for explosm ... ^^;
103 - TC8, 24/01/2008 15:41:31
I can't get the widget to work anymore - it stopped working when I upgraded to Ginger.
104 - philhans, 25/01/2008 0:36:56
TC8: This is because they deprecated the old API, so the old version of my module will no longer work with Ginger. I have been working on a version for the new API, but you have to add it manually. I'm not sure where the manual add area is in Ginger, but the address for the new one is http://philhans.awardspace.com/uwa.php. There should be a check mark to Inline the widget. Make sure to check that or it won't work properly. I'm trying to get a beta for Ginger to make sure it works myself, so I'll have more info then.
105 - TC8, 28/01/2008 14:36:28
I figured it was something like that. I'm still hunting for the manual add area in Ginger, but thanks! I love this widget, can't wait to have it back.
106 - Raj, 30/01/2008 18:29:33
In Ginger, to add a module manually, just go to the Add Content (at the top), pick Essential Widgets, go to the 2nd page and pick UWA Module. Just edit that and put in the URL in post 104 and add it to your page. The Revised Daily Comics widget works fine for me so far in Ginger. Good luck.
107 - Ron, 08/02/2008 20:40:59
Thanks for comments 104 & 106. I thought that I would have to forgo 'Revised Daily Comics' with this move to Ginger. Thank you, philhans, for this great widget!
108 - Jozef, 13/02/2008 15:42:21
The comics of the Ginger version stay inside the widget itself, making them super small. Otherwise, keep up the good work. :)
109 - philhans, 13/02/2008 21:23:55
This is most likely due to the module not being inlined. Whenever you manually add the module is there a checkbox or other option to inline it? If there is you need to be sure to enable it for the module to work properly.
110 - Mariusz, 16/02/2008 11:21:09
Hi, can I get Sam & Fuzzy?

http://samandfuzzy.com/
111 - DMzda, 18/02/2008 20:53:17
Thanks for the great widget!
Could you add Dennis the Mennis please?
112 - YKQuinne, 24/02/2008 18:26:46
Could is be possible to add:

SMBC (http://www.smbc-comics.com)
Odd-fish (http://www.odd-fish.net)
Multiplex (http://www.multiplexcomic.com)
We The Robots (http://www.wetherobots.com)
Rob & Elliot (http://www.robandelliot.cycomics.com)
Green Planet (http://ryanpagelow.com)
Left handed toons (http://www.lefthandedtoons.com)

It would be greatly appreciated ^^
113 - Mariusz, 05/03/2008 17:28:59
Doesn't seem to work with the new Netvibes (Ginger). Can you look into it?

Thanks,
M
114 - Mike, 06/03/2008 8:59:13
Dear Philhans,

Garfield and Peanuts are not working anymore :-(
Could you have a look at it please ? Many thanks in advance.

Mike

PS : For Mariusz, see above !!!
115 - Ryan, 06/03/2008 14:57:36
Would it be possible to add One Big Happy?

http://www.creators.com/comics/one-big-happy.html?comicname=obh
or from this link:
http://news.yahoo.com/comics/onebighappy

Thanks, and great widget!
116 - Mariusz, 07/03/2008 21:11:38
@Mike: yeah, but my problem is NOTHING shows in Ginger. I just get empty window.
117 - Soroush, 11/03/2008 17:57:02
Thank you for updating the widget!
118 - bodelier, 11/03/2008 23:56:15
I really appreciate all you do. When the comics didn't come up, I almost freaked. Just knowing you're there with a healthy supply of tech-savvy made my day. Thanks.

How about adding Monty? It's available at comics.com. Thanks for a life-changing widget!

Love this widget, and have it on my start-up page. Works perfectly in Firefox. I wondered if there was any chance of adding Andy Capp to the list? It's an old classic for UK readers/viewers. Thanks again.

Could you please add Archie? Thanks for adding One Big Happy, BTW, it's one I was hoping would show up!

Great Widget
Please add Lil'Abner & Drabble
123 - Maro, 26/03/2008 15:50:41
Thanks for this widget, it's great. :)
I just don't seem to get it to work. I added it to my page and checked "Inline this widget" and hit OK but the box still says that I need to inline the widget, and doesn't let me choose any comics.
Also, the refresh button does nothing.

I'm using Firefox 2, and the version before this worked fine.

I made a slight change to how that works. Let me know if it fixes it.
125 - Michelle, 27/03/2008 5:03:58
The widget stopped working for me and some others I know a few days ago.

This new version IS now working, thanks!

While it is working, it's not working as well as the previous version.

With this version, mouse roll-over on a comic name only shows the comic inside the borders of the widget. This cuts off most of the strip, making the roll-over feature not usable. The previous widget would, on roll-over, display a comic in full on top of other Netvibes content, outside the borders of the widget.

This version still allows one to click on a comic and open a new page. So it is functional, but it's not as nearly as quick and easy to read comics as was the previous version.

System specs:
Firefox 2 and 3-beta under WinXP and Linux. None of these Netvibes accounts have been "upgraded" to Ginger (and hopefully won't be forced to).

-Thanks

Right now I have the same problem as the previous poster. Strips stay inside the widget, whether I have Inlining checked or not.
127 - philhans, 27/03/2008 5:50:45
If it only shows up inside the widget then the module isn't actually inlined. Can you verify that the "Inline this widget" box is checked?
128 - philhans, 27/03/2008 5:54:06
Ok, I can verify that the inlining doesn't seem to work properly in the non-Ginger version of Netvibes. I'll continue to investigate the issue and see if I can find a solution.
129 - philhans, 27/03/2008 6:47:25
In the meantime, moving to Ginger would likely resolve the issue, but I'm still trying to see if it can be fixed
130 - Maro, 27/03/2008 21:26:25
I changed to Ginger, so now I have no problems.
Thanks for your work. :)

The widget has completely stopped working for me again. It's the same with some other people I know.

We're not moving to Ginger as it sucks up far too many system resources for these old machines. Even Coriander can lock up the browser after a few hours of running. Since we've no use for the social networking "features", it's Coriander or bust.

Oh, and regarding the inline setting. When the widget was working yesterday, setting it for inline displayed a portion of the comic inside the borders of the widget. But turning inline off shrunk the strips down to fit within the borders of the widget. Very, very tiny. So the system was recognizing some difference in the setting.

One other issue, when it was somewhat working yesterday, rolling the mouse over any given comic would flash all text in the widget on and off very quickly.

The present behavior is a display of the request to set the widget for inline, whether it is set for inline or not. We're unable to reach the widget prefs or view any comics.

-Thanks

I have tested it myself and I can confirm what you are seeing. The issue is that regardless of what the checkbox option says, the widget isn't actually being inlined. While you may be seeing some slight differences in behavior, this is only due to the way my module behaves. I'm trying to find out with the Netvibes developers if this can be resolved.

Thanks for updating this to Ginger!

Could you by any chance add Rehabilitating Mr. Wiggles?

1) Questionable Content seems to be broken (always grey, and the new comics show up on questionablecontent.net)
2) I CAN HAS Able & Baker (http://www.jimburgessdesign.com/comics/)? :)
135 - philhans, 04/04/2008 18:10:27
Questionable Content works fine on my end, what browser are you using? I did add the other comic though.
136 - philhans, 10/04/2008 19:19:47
I finally figured out what was causing the module to not be inlined on Coriander. Those of you who aren't running on Ginger should be able to use the module again. Sorry for the trouble.

Please could you add Alex (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/Alex/pAlexTemplate.jhtml?pTitle=Alex.Telegraph
